Julius B. Nelson and Son, Inc.

We are a commercial painting and decorating contractor that has been doing business in the Twin Cities and upper midwest since 1942. We recently celebrated our 60th anniversary with an open house attended by 150 past and present employees, vendors, and "friends of the family".

In our 60 year history, we have performed painting, wall covering, and special coating work on thousands of projects, including schools, churches, office buildings, warehouses, retail locations, medical facilities, and hotels. For our entire history, we have employed only union workers with a total crew size from 40-60 journeymen and apprentices. The office staff consists of eight people divided into administrative, field superintendents, and project managers.

Located on the same corner in Northeast Minneapolis since their founding, we have established a solid customer base consisting of many Twin Cities general contractors, as well as doing a considerable amount of owner-direct work.

Some of the major projects we have been involved with include the new American Express Client Service Center, Centracare Medical Facility in St. Cloud, Target Headquarters and Target store downtown Minneapolis, St. Paul City Hall Historic Renovation, Ordway Music Theatre, Riverplace Complex, Canterbury Park, IDS Center, and Southdale Shopping Center when it was originally built in the 1950's.

We are most proud of our loyal customer base, our longevity, and the fact that many of our employees retire from our firm with over 30 years of service to the company and the painting and decorating industry.
